Village Fire and Medical

One Community will demonstrate comprehensive environmental and personal safety. We have used a systems engineering approach to creating this and will be open sourcing all components of our plan to help future teacher/demonstration villages create similar plans.

VILLAGE FIRE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL PLAN

Fire and Medical Icon, Open Source Fire Plan, Open Source Emergency Medical StrategyOne Community is taking an open source project-launch blueprinting approach to everything we do. The following structure is purposed to clearly share our fire and emergency medical safety design parameters and goals in a duplicable and easily modifiable format. This structure is purposed to comprehensively address challenges before they arise while easily and transparently tracking the evolution of of all aspects of this component (through both top-down and bottom-up changes) until it is complete. In the following systems engineering approach:

  • “Shall” statements are specifics that will be met because we consider them essential
  • “Will” statements are considered important but with built-in flexibility if it is needed
  • “Could” and “Should” statements are goals and possibilities we hope to achieve, but not required

Level’s 5 and below are the details that will evolve into complete open source resource databases once we move onto the property. These resources will either be developed as their own complete web components or added to the do-it-yourself multi-media resource and information hub. LEVEL 2: ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
  • Every village shall have a comprehensive home and wildland fire plan element
  • Every village shall have a comprehensive emergency medical and evacuation plan
LEVEL 3: FIRE AND MEDICAL SYSTEMS

Highest Good society, fulfilled living, enriched life, enriching life, living to live, how to live an enriched life, keeping it all running, sustainable living, social architecture, fulfilled living, thriving, thrivability, emotional sustainability, the good life, a new way to liveAll fire and medical systems will be open source developed by us or we will link to existing open source resources as part of the complete One Community open source resource databases. So we are as comprehensive and complete as possible, most of this development will happen once we move onto the property and actually implement these systems. The resources we create will either be developed as their own complete web components or added to the do-it-yourself multi-media resource and information hub. Level 5 Subsystems, Level 6 Components, Level 7 Training, and Level 8 Tools and Equipment Needs (all outlined below) will be included with the complete details of the open source systems resources we create.

  • Every village shall have a wildland-property fire preparation and maintenance system
  • Every village shall have a property medical preparation and maintenance system
  • Every village shall have a fire training and emergency evacuation system
  • Every village shall have a medical training and evacuation system
LEVEL 4: FIRE AND MEDICAL ASSUMPTIONS
  • Experienced instructors for all trainings
  • At least one EMT, Licensed Nurse, or MD on staff
  • Emergency/medical ambulance within 1 hour’s drive
  • Ability to phone for an emergency medical airlift if needed
LVL5: FIRE AND MEDICAL SUBSYSTEMS   |   LVL6 COMPONENTS   |   LVL7 TRAINING
WILDLAND-PROPERTY PREPARATION AND MAINTENANCE SUBSYSTEMS, COMPONENTS, AND TRAINING
  • Brush clearing subsystem
  • Ladder fuel removal subsystem
  • Annual property check subsystem
  • Annual tool/equipment check subsystem
    • Tool maintenance/sharpening component
    • Restocking of tools if needed component
MEDICAL PREPARATION AND MAINTENANCE SUBSYSTEMS, COMPONENTS, AND TRAINING
  • Initial helipad setup and brush clearing subsystem
  • Initial setup of property road entry and signage subsystem
  • Monthly check of property road entry signage subsystem
  • Monthly safety check of permanent helipad subsystem
  • Annual (and after any evacuation) helicopter marshal safety equipment and helipad check subsystem
EMERGENCY FIRE TRAINING & EVACUATION SUBSYSTEMS, COMPONENTS, AND TRAINING
  • There shall be an open source duplication component for the complete fire plan including:
  • Fire extinguishers for dome clusters
  • Fire-behavior and strategy class subsystem
    • Initial attack component
    • Chainsaw use & safety instruction component
    • Creation of fire-response team/crew component
    • Comprehensive evacuation plan & training component
    • Identify need and call for air attack if necessary component
  • Basic first-aid class subsystem
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRAINING AND EVACUATION SUBSYSTEMS, COMPONENTS, AND TRAINING
  • There shall be an open source duplication component for the complete medical plan including:
  • EMT class subsystem
  • Basic first-aid class subsystem
  • Emergency response class subsystem
  • Medical strategy class subsystem
    • What to do for patient pickup if ambulance dispatch component
    • What to do for patient pickup if helicopter dispatch component
LEVEL 8: FIRE AND MEDICAL TOOL AND EQUIPMENT NEEDS
  • Tool storage space
  • Pulaskis, shovels, flagging
  • Chainsaws (Stihl or Husqvarna), tool kits (grease gun, flat files, round files, portable file guides, plastic wedges), chainsaw bars, chain roll, kevlar chaps, hardhats with attached earmuffs & eye protection, dolmars (for 2-cycle chainsaw mix and bar oil)
  • Basic first-aid kits
  • Emergency first-aid equipment
  • Fire extinguishers for dome clusters
  • Install emergency vehicle signage marker at property entrance
  • Transport vehicle for moving patients to nearest major road whenever possible
  • Designate permanent helispot/mobile helispot with red X and permanent windsock
    • Marshal present, if possible, to guide chopper in by streamers or body positioning
  • Radio connection with proper radio frequency and coordinates or cell connection for quick and direct route to ground destination (instructions from ground should include o’clock directions once visual contact is made between landing site and evacuation helicopter
  • Eye and ear protection, fluorescent orange vest, hard hat
  • Basket sling for hover hook-up if chopper cannot land (medical unit may carry this on board, check local dispatch location)
  • Necessary supplies for patient comfort: first aid kit, blanket, pillow, water, shade
