One Community’s physical location will forward this movement as the first of many self-replicating teacher/demonstration communities, villages, and cities to be built around the world. This is the July 25th, 2014 edition (#73) of our weekly progress update detailing the previous week’s development and accomplishments:
Here is the bullet-point list of this last week’s design and progress discussed in detail in the video above:

One Community is creating holistic transformational change through Highest Good education that is for all ages, applicable in any environment, adaptable to individual needs, far exceeds traditional education standards, and more fun for both the teachers and the students:
This last week the core team finished the Spring-themed lesson plan mindmap you can see here. We also set up the basics of the webpage for this open source lesson plan:
One Community is designing new approaches to persistent global challenges through Highest Good food that is more diverse, more nutritious, locally grown and sustainable, and part of our open source botanical garden model to support and share bio-diversity:
This last week the core team finished adding the diversity details to the heirloom and organic Parsnips section of the large-scale gardening page. We added 13 different parsnips and featured the 11 you see here along with also adding planting guidelines, cultural considerations, and purchasing details for them all:
We also completed doing this for Parsley too, adding 16 varieties total and additional details for the 9 you see featured here:
One Community is designing new approaches to persistent global challenges through Highest Good housing that is artistic and beautiful, more affordable, more space efficient, lasts longer, DIY buildable, and constructed with healthy and sustainable materials:
This last week the core team added remote internet rollout specifics for off grid communities of 400+ people to our open source internet setup page. We also added a resources section. The page is now a complete and comprehensive open source guide that is the product of over 2 months of research and work. Here is a snapshot of the newest additions:
We also updated all the 3-D renders throughout the earthbag village sections of the website compliments of the work of Devin Porter (3D Graphics Design Specialist – DevinPorter.com) and Bupesh Seethala (Architectural Drafter, Designer, and 3-D Visualizer – BupeshSeethala.com). This is a huge website update that includes the new pictures you see here of the complete village, 3-dome clusters, 6-dome clusters, ADA compliant 3-dome clusters, and the Tropical Atrium:
In addition to this, we added an overview of the steps required for us to launch our complete crowdfunding campaign to our crowdfunding campaign webpage. These steps are a summary of over 80 hours of much more specific and behind-the-scenes planning and team organization as we continue to check off all the necessary action items to complete this campaign:
Da Ku (Mechanical Engineer) also finished the necessary engineering calculations for the earthbag village structures we’ll be building, which you can see here:
Engineering Calculations for the Earthbag Village Structures
What you are seeing is that the maximum compression stress (16 psi) is much lower than the strength, which showed these structures are strong when Da Ku ran the numbers using both the mechanical properties of low standard concrete (Young’s Modulus 2.2*10^10 Pa) and the experiments on earthbags from our partners at EarthbagBuilding.com (Young’s Modulus 2*10^7 Pa). We also looked at testing of polypropylene earthbags and found strengths of 43.06 psi, 57.84 psi, and 311 psi – plus other people’s results from the EarthbagBulding.com website that also confirmed strengths greater than 200 psi. While everyone should do their own calculations to confirm these numbers, we feel confident building with this approach.
One Community is designing new approaches to persistent global challenges through a Duplicable and Sustainable City Center that is LEED Platinum certified/Sustainable, can feed 200 people at a time, provide laundry for over 300 people, is beautiful, spacious, and saves resources, money, and space:
This last week the core team completed a significant update to our master energy schedule for the Duplicable City Center and complete earthbag village. Here’s a screen capture of all these details:
We also completed the first few scenes of the Duplicable City Center construction in 3D video that you can see here. This video is being created to showcase the results of over 2 years of design work and will be over 4 minutes long when complete:
Karl Harris (Architect Drafter, Designer, and founder of Harris Design & Technology Services) also finished a recreation of about 6 weeks of work lost due to a computer crash two weeks ago, and added the addition of windows to cupola and a 2nd entrance to the Social Dome/West elevation. This image is all the restored details plus the new additions. (see below)
One Community is designing new approaches to persistent global challenges through a Highest Good society approach to living that is founded on fulfilled living, the study of meeting human needs, Community, and making a difference in the world:
This last week the core team finished the complete redesign and update of all content on the core value of Contribution page that describes the One Community model for global contribution combined with creating individual freedom and a more fulfilled living experience:
